In a recent interview, the head writer and executive producer of the television series moon knight, Jeremy Slaterspoke about the original intention that several of the eternalwhich was eventually discarded.
Slater revealed that the idea was in one of the first drafts of the script, and that he fought hard to get it off the ground. More specifically, he engineered Kingo’s appearance in a flash back set in Ancient Egypt. But it wouldn’t have been the only one, as the plan was for three or four Eternals to appear in an action sequence that also involved one of Konshu’s avatars. However, due to how expensive it was to produce, it was scrapped.
I tried really hard to get the Eternals into the series, not just because I’m friends with Kumail Nanjiani. He wanted something from Kingo. At one point, there was a flashback in the script that showed one of Khonshu’s avatars in Ancient Egypt, dealing with Ammit locked up, Alexander the Great and all that. Somehow you saw this avatar teaming up with the Eternals. It was a really fun scene, but then again, it was hugely expensive to recreate Ancient Egypt, to bring in three or four of the Eternals to have this big action sequence.
The sequence would have been the beginning of one of the episodes, and while Slater acknowledged it was a lot of fun, he also thinks scrapping it was the right decision.
It was one of those things where the scene was really funny, and it would have been great to open one of the episodes like that, but it also would have had to come out of our budget somewhere else, and it probably would have impacted our ending along the way. So, that was the cameo that I had to cut out. It hurt me, but it was also the right thing to do for the series, and I think everyone collectively agreed. There’s plenty of time in the future to bring this one together with other MCU characters and start building these connections. Let’s not force something just because the other series have had it.
