The biracial twins have become bona fide social media stars as their stories catch the attention of millions of netizens, who are increasingly amazed by the incredibly rare quirk of nature.
According to genetics experts, this type of birth is so rare that it is estimated that there is only a one in a million chance of it happening. The most recent documented case is that of a couple in Nottingham, England, who experienced a miracle after their mother gave birth to a set of twins who have completely different skin colors.
According to information from dailymail, Last April, Chantelle, 29, and Ashton, 29, were shocked when their son Ayon was born with fair skin and green eyes, while his twin sister Azirah has dark skin and brown eyes.
Chantelle, an auxiliary nurse, explained that although she appears white, she is of mixed race because her maternal grandfather is Nigerian. Also, Ella Ashton’s husband is half Jamaican and half Scottish.
The couple told the British newspaper that twins Azirah and Ayon looked alike when they were born at Nottingham City Hospital. However, Chantelle noticed that as the weeks went by, the little girl’s skin was getting “darker and darker.”
Azirah was a little darker at birth, but it didn’t really show. Now, over the weeks, she’s gotten to the point where she’s darker than her father.
Unsurprisingly, on every outing, the twins catch the attention of strangers. Even Chantelle joked that there are probably a lot of people out there who think their babies have different fathers.
There are people who ask me: ‘Are they yours?’ Lots of older ladies stop me and tell me how beautiful it is. Most of the time, people don’t want to mention it, but when we tell them, they say it’s crazy, since you don’t see it very often. I wouldn’t have it any other way though, it’s certainly one of a kind!
