Michael Keaton would appear at Superman’s funeral as Bruce Wayne, a sequence that was clarified by Kevin Smith, who wrote the drafts of this tape.
What was the Batman scene like in Superman Lives?
According to Smith, the scene took place in the streets of Metropolis, in the midst of people’s sadness at the death of Superman.
In the main plaza a giant WGBS screen would broadcast the funeral services. Batman takes control of this signal, and directs a message to the population of Metropolis, where he shows his respect to the Man of Steel,
“It has been said that he fought a never-ending battle for truth, justice and the American way of life. Honor this fallen soldier well, keeping his memory alive in the face of this adversity.” was Batman’s speech in a short scene.
Also considered as part of the cast was Courtney Cox, the star of the Friends series, who was offered the role of Lois Lane, but the actress declined the offer due to problems with her schedule when filming Scream and the NBC series.
