The saga ‘The Lord of the Rings’, considered one of the most successful of all time, is characterized, among other things, by its spectacular landscapes and locations, which seem taken from a fantasy world, but some of them they did exist.
That is the case of the mansion that appears in ‘The Fellowship of the Ring’ and ‘The Two Towers’, the first two installments of the trilogy.
The property, known as fernside and built in 1924 by the architect Heathcote Helmore in Wellington, New Zealandmade the news a few hours ago after it was announced that it was released for sale. for $$5.2 million.
The Georgian colonial-style residence was commissioned by the legendary Elgar family after their former home, dating from the late 19th century, was consumed by a fierce fire.
The property belonged to the Elgars until 1949. In that year they sold it to the United States Embassy to become the home of the ambassador to that country and did so until the mid-1950s.
From then until 2007 it went through a phase of decline, but its current owners rescued it, so much so that it was considered for ‘The Lord of the Rings’.
The current house has an extension of 9,600 square feetwith eight bedrooms and six bathrooms.
It also has a hall, a kitchen, a dining room, a living room, a main room, a library, a wine cellar, a solarium, a room for flowers, a room for boots, an elevator, a bathroom laundry, among other rooms.
Outside, on his lot 12 acresthe property has a terrace, a garage for three vehicles, a workshop, a woodshed, a guest house and extensive green areas that look just as they did 100 years ago.
The green areas have fountains, a rose garden, a chess garden, a daffodil paddock, a sunken Victorian garden, an orchard, a croquet lawn and huge trees.
In addition to this, it also has a spectacular lake, this being the space that appears in some emblematic scenes of ‘The Lord of the Rings’.
