There is still just over half a year left for the most famous archaeologist on the big screen to return to our lives in a fifth feature film led by James Mangold, but today we are going to put enthusiasm aside to project our gaze on the most controversial and repudiated installment by fans of the saga: the not so abominable ‘Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull’.
the story ahead
When it was released back in 2008, the film directed by Steven Spielberg left a good part of the parishioners as confused as they were dissatisfied due to many different factors. Harshly criticized were scenes like the nuclear explosion, interpretations like Shia LaBeouf’s or decisions like fleeing from legends and religious mysticism to focus the narrative on extraterrestrial civilizations.
Now, fourteen years after the premiere, the producer and president of LucasFilm kathleen kennedy has explained in the latest issue of Empire magazine what he thinks was The main problem of ‘The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull’and this one has nothing to do with jeep chases garnished with digital monkeys of dubious quality.
“You never set out to do anything more than make a great movie, and sometimes you hit the mark and sometimes you don’t. In the case of Indy 4 I don’t think there’s anything specific that any of us remember, except that we may not have such a history.” solid as we wanted”.
There is no doubt that star-studded casts, designer set pieces and technical and logistical deployments made in Hollywood are useless without a story to match the circumstances. Let’s hope that with ‘Indiana Jones 5’ the trio of writers made up of Jez Butterworth, John-Henry Butterworth and James Mangold himself has hit the right keys to fire the iconic character of Harrison Ford as he deserves.
To get out of doubt we will have to wait for the June 30, 2023. For the moment, and as far as I’m concerned, all the faith in the world in the project.
