I have no proof, but no doubt either, that The great cinematographic duel of this year will take place on July 21, when Christopher Nolan’s ‘Oppenheimer’ and Greta Gerwig’s ‘Barbie’ will arrive in our theaters; a battle between two radically different styles and bets that, for the moment, does not have a clear favourite.
But if something makes the balance lean slightly towards the side of the film based on the adventures of the Mattel doll, it is the fact that in it we can see nothing less than John Cena playing Ken Triton; a role that the ‘Fast & Furious X’ star landed purely by chance.
It’s not a merman, it’s a merman
During an interview with The Today Show, the wrestler and actor explained how he managed to put on his tail for one of the many cameos that will be in the feature film after being rejected in an open casting call for the role of Ken, which ended up in the hands of Ryan Gosling. It all had to do with meeting the right person at the right time, and having great neighbors on set.
“It was by chance. I hadn’t worked with Margot before. We literally just happened to meet as friends. Fast X was shooting across the street from Barbie, and she asked me, ‘Why aren’t you in Barbie?’ I said, ‘I’ve been trying!’ Margot makes a lot of decisions about it, and I said, ‘Well, I’ll do what you need.'”
Dinner also threw flowers at Gerwig’s production, drawn lines between it and the latest installment of the ‘Fast & Furious’ saga.
“Honestly, I think people are going to have a great time seeing this. I think it’s going to take a lot of people by surprise. It’s a very interesting sight, but I got really lucky and it’s wildly surreal.
I think Barbie and Fast X share a lot of similarities. His deals are amazing. Barbie’s list is amazing. It was an opportunity to say, ‘Would you be willing to count on me if I could do something?'”
I don’t know about you but Every day that passes I feel more like throwing the glove to ‘Barbie’.
