The following story of a kind man who was run over to death after getting out of his car to help a mother duck and her ducklings cross a difficult avenue broke our hearts.
After doing his good deed, Casey Rivara hurried back to his car, only to be hit by a young female driver. His relatives affirm that they are not surprised that the last action of the 41-year-old American man in this life has been, precisely, to perform an act of kindness.
According to BBC News, it was dusk when Casey was driving home from taking her children to their swimming class in the Californian town of Rocklin. When stopping at a traffic light, they saw how a mother duck was having trouble crossing the street along with her ducklings.
Without hesitation, Rivara got out of his vehicle to help the cute little animals. With patience, he managed to get them to cross the busy avenue to save them, but, due to those strange things of fate, he was unable to get rid of danger.
Just as he was returning to his vehicle and while still on the highway, a 17-year-old girl on Stanford Ranch Boulevard passed through the intersection and unfortunately struck him. Her body was thrown from the impact and unfortunately she died at the scene. Through his Facebook page, his widow, Angel Chow, thanked the expressions of affection received.
We have been deeply touched by the love and immense support we have received for Casey Rivara and our family in these past few days. We want to express our sincere gratitude to all of you for the kind messages and gestures of kindness. It is truly sobering to hear how Casey has positively impacted her lives and we are so thankful for that.
According to information from NBCNewsNo arrests have been made and the teenage girl is unlikely to face criminal charges, but the incident is still under investigation. Neighbors in the area improvised a simple altar to honor the memory of this extraordinary man.
