After receiving criticism on social networks after his appearance at the awards ceremony grammy because his face looked very changed, Madonna resorted to his account instagram to publish a long message with which he spoke about it.
Accompanying a series of videos in which he appears with other artists the Queen of pop commented that he would originally give the award for Album of the Year, but ultimately opted to feature the performance of sam smith with kim petras: “Instead of focusing on what I said in my speech…many people chose to talk only about close-up photos of me, taken with a long-lens camera by a press photographer that would distort anyone’s face!”
The artist was very clear when commenting that the attacks are focused on exposing her age: “Once again I am caught in the glare of ageism and misogyny that pervades the world we live in. A world that refuses to celebrate women over the age of 45 and feels the need to punish them if they remain strong, hardworking and adventurous. I’ve never apologized for any of the creative choices I’ve made or the way I look or dress and I’m not going to start doing that. I have been demeaned by the media since the beginning of my career, but I understand that this is all a test and I am happy to be a trailblazer so that all the women behind me can have an easier time in the years to come. In the words of Beyonce “They won’t break my soul.”
