Today there is a struggle to obtain new rights that were previously not considered important or necessary. One of these is the right to gender identity, which opens the possibility for any person who does not identify with the gender assigned to them at birth to modify their body and be identified as they prefer. Due to this reform, it has been possible to make the pertinent changes to the spaces that were previously divided by gender, such as beauty pageants.
In this way, contests like Miss Universe opened their doors to trans women since 2012, which allowed women like Ángela Ponce to become beauty queens. Unfortunately, despite being the most important and recognized event worldwide, the reality is that in other countries like Mexico, outdated rules are maintained that do not enforce the rights of all.
This was reaffirmed by Lupita Jones, 54 years old, to a reporter who questioned her again about her feelings about the rules that do not allow the participation of trans women in “Mexicana Universal”, the contest of which Lupita is national director.
The former beauty queen applauds the changes that have been made to the contest guidelines, such as accepting women with children, and commented that they even had their first contestant with these characteristics.
Following the guidelines of Miss Universe, young girls who are married, who have children, situations that were not allowed before, are being accepted, so we have received some girls who are mothers, who have been participating in state events.
In addition, she revealed that she was very happy with these changes, but the conversation quickly became somewhat awkward when they asked her about her position on incorporating trans girls into contests, since in the past she had declared her thoughts on the subject and was harshly criticized.
It is a topic that we have already talked about a lot and we are still on the same ones.
Jones did not want to give more details, because in 2018 she expanded on the subject and it was not flattering, since the first trans woman to become Miss Universe, Angela Ponce, went for the jugular, making harsh comments and calling her “transphobic”. ”.
If you like to talk about it so much, read, investigate, get informed, grow as a person and then if you don’t drop your face in shame seeing the “opinions” you gave, then you think with the property that knowing gives you.
