More details have finally arrived with a good slap of nostalgia about the new anime of ‘Urusei Yatsura’which will adapt the iconic manga by Rumiko Takahashi.
Before publishing ‘Ranma 1/2’ and ‘Inuyasha’, Takahashi already made a name for himself as a mangaka thanks to ‘Urusei Yatsura’. The sci-fi romance series follows Ataru Moroboshi, a slightly sad high school student who is obsessed with pretty girls. Despite leading a very ordinary life, Ataru is chosen to represent Earth in a competition against aliens who want to invade the planet.
A very special alien invader
The beautiful Lamu (Lum, in original version) represents the invasive species, and due to a confusion she believes that Ataru has declared his love for her and wants to marry her. Since then, both teenagers begin a peculiar relationship that even puts Ataru in physical danger due to Lamu’s effusive love.
The manga already had an anime adaptation back in the 80s that almost reached 200 episodes, several television specials and up to six movies. Now we know that Lamu will return to the small screen with a new series, although she will surely be much more restrained when it comes to adapting the original material.
The new anime series is developed from David Production, the studio behind ‘JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure’. The anime will target 52 episodes that will air in 4 parts, with the premiere of the first for October 2022 confirmed with a new promotional poster.
‘Urusei Yatsura’ It will thus enter the powerful batch of autumn premieres, and continue to air during 2023. The cast of voices in the original version will feature Hiroshi Kamiya as Ataru Moroboshi Sumire Uesaka as Lamu, Wataru Takagi as Cherry, and Miyuki Sawashiro and Sakura.
