Few sleeves have marked its genre as much as ‘The Rose of Versailles’ of Riyoko Ikeda. This cult manga set in 18th century France began to be published back in 1972 and set the stage for the revolution of stories dedicated to a female audience that would come later.
‘The Rose of Versailles’ It originally had a 40-episode anime series that has also become a classic, and in the midst of the manga’s 50th anniversary celebrations, the rumors have ended up hitting the nail on the head and it seems that we will have a new film with Lady Oscar.
Palace intrigues and revolution
Though Marie Antoinette is also a key character in the story, the plot follows Oscar Francois de Jarjayes who is the youngest of six daughters and has been raised as a man all her life in order to succeed her father as commander of the Versailles Royal Guard. In the midst of luxurious palace life and the intrigues and love affairs that come with it, Lady Oscar begins to pay more and more attention to the suffering of the French people.
For now there is not much more information about the film beyond the confirmation of the project with a first teaser with scenes from the manga. This same month an exhibition celebrating the anniversary of the manga is held in Tokyo where it is very possible that more information about the production will be given, so it’s time to stay tuned.
In addition to the classic series, ‘The Rose of Versailles’ It has also inspired a 1990 anime film, several musicals, and even a live-action film.
