Several Latino community leaders spoke out against efforts to pressure Councilman Kevin de León to resign from the Los Angeles City Council, which could drastically affect his political career.
Last week, a private conversation was secretly recorded at the Los Angeles County Federation of Trade Unions facility a year ago and was leaked to the media.
In it, former Council President Nury Martínez is heard making racist comments against the Afro-American and Guajacaqueño community of Los Angeles, without leader Ron Herrera and councilors Kevin de León and Gil Cedillo doing anything to stop them.
“The voices that are angry ask that Kevin de León resign (…) although he has apologized, this has not been enough for those who demand that he leave,” explained Aracelis Martínez Ortegas, a journalist for La Opinion.
“One Pill Kills”
Texas Governor Greg Abbott has launched a “One Pill Kills” campaign in which he attempts to attack the growing national fentanyl crisis affecting the state and the entire United States.
That announcement came after the governor ordered state agencies to step up efforts to tackle this deadly fentanyl crisis last month.
“We are talking about a very dangerous substance, 50 times stronger than heroin and it only takes 2 milligrams to cause an overdose and even death,” warned Gustavo Rangel, a journalist for La Opinion.
Rangel also noted that “It has caused the death of more than 1,700 people in Texas.”
