Definitely, it is not easy for a Mexican to be the favorite in a category in the most important award ceremony of world cinematography, the Academy Awards, better known as the Oscar Awards, but Guillermo del Toro This has completely changed.
In 2018, del Toro won the oscar cAs “Best Director” for the film “The Shape of Water”, the native of Guadalajara, Mexico, the absolute favorite in the “Best Animation” category for his film “Pinocchio”.
The director received a few weeks ago the Golden Globe and win at the UK Academy of Arts Awards (BAFTA).
Upon receiving the BAFTA, Guillermo gave an important speech on the importance of animation workhighlighted that a branch of cinema, which is not only dedicated to children, but also that it is a broadly artistic field that should remain in the cinematographic conversation.
“I want to thank the British Academy for not only this honour, but for allowing our animated film to enter categories they are not normally allowed in. I think animation is not a genre for children, it’s a medium for art, it’s a medium for film and that I think is something that should definitely stay in the conversation.”

The Mexican filmmaker thanked the British Film Academy for making films like “Pinocchio” animated could compete in categories where sometimes they are not taken into account.
