That of Ellen Pompeo is not the only important casualty suffered by the most famous hospital on current television this course. We have known that Krista Vernoff Stepping down as ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ showrunner at the end of season 19which is currently broadcast on ABC (and on Disney+ in Spain).
It is not the only series from which the screenwriter and executive producer is leaving, since she will also leave her work as showrunner in ‘Station 19’the firefighter spin-off of the hit medical drama.
Vernoff herself has wanted to make her own farewell:
“It has been the privilege of a lifetime to have been entrusted with carrying ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ for the past six years and ‘Station 19’ for the past four. The passion of the established fandom and the impact these series have on hearts and minds cannot be overstated. The amount of talent in these two extraordinary casts and in these two brilliant writing rooms is beyond calculating…and these teams work their magic week after week.”
13 seasons in the series
After Shonda Rhimes, Vernoff is probably the writer who has been most linked to the series…or at least one of his most influential, having worked on fiction for the first seven seasons of ‘Grey’s Anatomy’, after a hiatus, returning in season 14 as showrunner.
This also opens the door to the possible return of the screenwriter, since she ensures that she does not rule out the possibility of returning in the future. Something that is also contemplated in the case of Ellen Pompeowhich will say goodbye to audiences next month in the return of the series after the winter break, to have a brief return at the end of the season.
Now it’s time to find a new showrunner for both series. In the case of ‘Grey’s Anatomy’, everything indicates that Vernoff’s successor will be Meg Marinis, another great veteran of the series. In case of ‘Station 19’, Zoanne Clack would take over as coshowrunner alongside Peter Paige.
