In 2005, Constantine It reached movie theaters, in a tape that over time became a cult feature film, which adapted the Dangerous Habits arc, authored by Garth Ennis.
Constantine earned 230 million dollars, taking into account the 100 million budget it had, but one of his goals had been met, John Constantine began to be known by readers from all over the world, as well as opening the door to Vertigo Comics in cinema.
In an interview with Slash Film, Keanu Reeves revealed that year after year he lobbied Warner Bros. executives for Constantine 2 to get the green light.
“I don’t know if it was unfinished business, but it was definitely a role that I loved. And I thought Francis Lawrence, the director, did an amazing job. I loved playing that character and I really enjoyed the movie. was like ‘Can I have more?’ I kept asking almost every year“.
An insistence that gave results
But the saying goes that the pitcher goes so far until it breaks, and in 2022 Warner Bros. and DC Comics agreed to continue the Constantine saga in the cinema, now as one of the most widely read characters on the Vertigo label.
Keanu Reeves is already waiting for the moment to return to wearing the raincoat, cigars and knowledge of Constantine to return to a new adventure tinged with terror
“It’s exciting. It’s almost like an open playground where hopefully we can cook something and play and I guess get out of the playground and make a meal. But I’m looking forward to it, and I hope it can happen… You don’t know how these things go. But I’m definitely going to do my best to try to make that dream come true.”.
