A little over four years ago, actress Karla Souza revealed during an interview having suffered sexual abuse by a producer with whom he worked.
Although he never mentioned any name, in a matter of hours Televisa announced the break in its labor relations with the filmmaker Gustavo Loza.
Since then, the alleged victim’s doors to work in Mexico have been closed. and therefore decided to move to Los Angeles, California, where he currently resides.
“I have been dealing with the issue of gender violence for 10 years, because it is something I experienced, where one in three women suffers from violence in Mexico. There are many stories and ways to tell them. We also need the men to tell those hard-hitting stories to debate and change legislation. For me, talking about having been a victim of sexual abuse in my career, generated four years of being attacked digitally, physically, losing friends, being canceled and losing all brands, because nobody wanted to get dirty with that topic.“, Karla pointed out when participating in the panel “We in the cinema”, an event that took place as part of the activities of the International Film Festival, which is held in Guadalajara, Jalisco.
After her unpleasant experience, the 37-year-old actress advised young women to take care of themselves who are just starting their careers but above all seek advice from other women with more experience in the entertainment industry.
“Don’t go into a casting process alone, ask how much other people are charging, send a message to someone who knows. For example, when I went to Los Angeles I didn’t know Ana de la Reguera and I sent her a message on Instagram, then she sat down with me to tell me what to do,” he said.
In addition, Souza emphasized the advice of another colleague, who at the time made it clear that, When negotiating labor issues, she had to learn not to let herself be underestimated and in that sense she is now very clear never to allow anyone to refer to her in diminutive terms.
“Don’t call me Karlita, I prefer to call me Karla,” he emphasized.
In this way, it emerged that the Mexican actress is working on a new film project that will revolve around the domestic work carried out by millions of women in the world.
