Jean-Pierre Jeunet has attacked former geek film guru Joss Whedonin a story that goes back to the time of ‘Alien Resurrection’ (1997), which was the fourth and last ‘Alien’ movie starring Sigourney Weaver, which was an interesting case because Ripley’s character had been killed in the previous installment by a then young David Fincher, which was considered a major narrative stumble.
Jeunet: another who hates superhero movies
The studio went ahead and went through various projects, initially having Newt as the clone and the person behind those multiple scripts and revisions was a young Joss Whedon after the success of ‘Toy Story’, in which he participated. Whedon hasn’t been shy about his displeasure with the way French filmmaker Jean-Pierre Jeunet and the production team, including franchise writers Walter Hill and the late David Giler, treated his script in the final film, either. they made their own adjustments without him.
Now it is Jeunet who shares with The Independent his own impression of Whedon and his writing style and essentially suggests what would have happened if Whedon had directed the fourth film:
“I know that Joss Whedon said some bad things about me. I don’t mind. I know that if Joss Whedon had made the movie himself, it probably would have been a huge success. He’s very good at making movies for American geeks, something for morons. Because he is very good at making Marvel movies. I hate those kinds of movies. It’s such a silly, stupid thing.”
Whedon is now persona non grata in Hollywood after a series of on-and-off accusations that painted the self-proclaimed “feminist” as anything but. It is a classic that voices who have previously worked with him now appear sharing their honest opinion of him now that there seems to be no retaliation.
