Jean Claude Van Damme He was a great action movie star for several years and a clear attraction for people to come to their nearest cinema. Of course, her years of greatest splendor are long gone, but we still have all the movies she starred in and today I wanted to draw attention to the fact that one of them is available on Netflix from September 1. I mean ‘Human White’.
Freely inspired in an unconfessed way by the same story that served as the basis for the essential ‘The Evil Zaroff’, ‘Human White’ was also the first Hollywood film of john woowho initially wanted his protagonist to be Kurt Russellbut finally he knew how to conform to what the public expected of a Van Damme without giving up his style.
It is true that this represents a step backwards with respect to the evolution that had been shown in China, peaking with the excellent ‘Swarm’ -level to which in Hollywood he would only reach with the brilliantly insane ‘Face to face’-, but that does not mean that his treatment of the action has something special and that the Belgian star’s flying kicks feel more painful than ever. And it is that here you can see a choreography work in those scenes that many more recent productions would like for themselves.
To this we add the presence of certain elements more typical of the western that give the film a distinctive touch compared to other contemporary productions, the welcome presence of Arnold Vosloothe unforgettable Imhotep from ‘The Mummy’, and lance henryksen like the two great villains of the show and the generous doses of freaked-out adrenaline at moments like the already mythical encounter with the snake.
Plus Van Damme shining on his own and being more convincing than usual when it came to bringing out a bit of dramatic flair. Be careful, it is still the type of film that it is, but for a reason it is so remembered by fans of the genre almost 30 years after its premiere.
