Almost 20 years have passed since the last John McTiernan film. The director of action film classics such as ‘Crystal Jungle’ or ‘Predator’ returns with a new project after the hiatus due to his stay in prison: ‘Tau Ceti Foxtrot’, a science fiction film that will shoot in Europe.
expected return
Any lover of action movies will know John McTiernan very well, who has been inactive since ‘Basic’, his last film in 2003. The break was due to the legal problems that they took him to spend almost a year in prison and to pay a fine of $100,000.
The case took place in 2006: during the filming of ‘Rollerball’, McTiernan hired a private investigator to spy on his producer, a fact that he later denied to the FBI, although he ended up assuming the charges. The issue was resolved in 2013, with the aforementioned admission to prison of McTiernan, and after completing the sentence, he has not directed any feature film again.
Until now, with the confirmation from ‘Tau Ceti Foxtrot’. The director’s new project will be starring Uma Thurman and Laurence Fishburneand will tell the story of rebels uniting against military oligarchs terrorizing the inhabitants of the Tau Ceti solar system.
McTiernan’s career has been marked by success (‘Glass Jungle’, ‘Predator’, ‘The Hunt for Red October’…) but he crashed at the box office with his last two films (‘Rollerball’ and ‘Basic’). This science fiction title is his great opportunity to return through the front door to the world of cinema, from which he has been away for so many years.
‘Tau Ceti Foxtrot’ has been defined as “For a Fistful of Dollars on Another Planet” and its pre-production is back on track, despite the fact that Covid knocked it to the ground at the time (when it was still called ‘Tau Ceti Four’). If everything goes according to plan, the director’s idea is start this fall to shoot in France.
