In addition to John Krasinski, meet the filmmakers who could make the first Fantastic Four movie, now under the Marvel Studios label
In December 2020 Marvel Studios announced the return of the Fantastic Four to the big screen, and for this The House of Ideas turned to one of its trusted filmmakers, Jon Watts.
However, in May 2022, Jon Watts himself announced that he was stepping aside, since after directing Spider-Man: No Way Home, the director wanted a break from blockbuster projects.
Given this, Marvel Studios is studying a list of filmmakers who can lead the destinies of the Fantastic Four in their new installment on the big screen, and we have some candidates who could bring the first family of superheroes to the MCU.
John Krasinski
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness was Krasinski’s debut as Reed Richards in the MCU, a role he is sure to take on in the Fantastic Four reboot, but Krasinski’s work could go beyond the screen.
Krasinski already has experience from the director’s chair in films like The Hollars and the two installments of A Quite Place, so Marvel Studios could have the first filmmaker and protagonist of an installment of the MCU
Brad Bird
The filmmaker has extensive experience in animated productions such as the two installments of The Incredibles, Ratatouille, as well as the action film Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol.
The story that Bird worked for The Incredibles bears great similarities to the Fantastic Four, so the Montana native is one of Marvel Studios’ strong options to incorporate the quartet created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Jon Favreau
Favreau is the director who laid the foundation stone for the Marvel Cinematic Universe with the two Iron Man movies, as well as playing Happy Hogan, Tony Stark’s head of security.
After reviving interest in the Star Wars franchise with series like The Maldalorian, Favreau could be the one chosen to lead the Fantastic Four’s return to theaters.
Peyton Reed
Reed developed a Fantastic Four movie in 2003, but 20th Century Fox scrapped the project. Two decades later, Marvel could “return” the project to the director of the two Ant-Man installments.
“It’s absolutely something that would be interesting, especially now because I think it’s a crazy challenge right now. Also, I think thematically the Ant-Man movies deal with a lot of the same things as the Fantastic Four.”.
James Gunn
The native of St. Louis, Missouri, has achieved some of his greatest successes with Marvel Studios with the Guardians of the Galaxy saga, and is currently preparing both a Christmas special for digital platforms, as well as the third film of the crazy team .
Despite the fact that GOTG Vol. 3 would be Gunn’s last work with Marvel Studios, The House of Ideas could have Gunn in the deck of candidates, thanks to his unusual vision to carry the title that began in 1961 the modern era of Marvel Comics.
sam raimi
The experienced filmmaker returned through the front door with Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, a film that caused a furore among MCU fans and lovers of the horror genre.
With his experience with the first Spider-Man trilogy, added to the independence with which he worked within the ranks of Marvel Studios, Raimi could be Kevin Feige’s chosen one to bring Fantastic Four to the big screen.
Bryce DallasHoward
The actress who embodied the first version of Gwen Stacy in live-action format has shown to have qualities beyond acting, and proof of this is the two seasons of The Mandalorian series.
Dallas Howard’s chapters in the Mandalorian have been acclaimed by the public and the specialized press, so the also director could have an important challenge if Marvel Studios gives her one of the most beloved franchises of The House of Ideas.
