One of the great horror franchises of this century will have a television extension. ‘Warren File’ (The Conjuring) became a franchise started by director James Wan in 2013 and has so far had eight feature films. Now, a series is in development with Wan and Peter Safran producing for the Max platform from Warner Brother, recently renamed.
More Warren cases
Still Not much is known about this possible series except that it “will continue the story established in the feature films”, which gives many possibilities, since there are already many films that make up the Conjuring universe. The main thread is real-life demonologists Ed and Lorraine Warren, who are played by Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga respectively and have appeared in four of the movies, plus minor cameos in two others. The Annabelle doll is another important part of this world of ghosts and demons with her own trilogy.
‘The curse of La Llorona’ is within the universe by a hair’s breadth and ‘La monja’ is its most successful installment, so much so that it will have a sequel on September 8. A fourth mainline ‘Warren Files’ film is also in development, starring Wilson and Farmiga that seemed to be the latest installment of this successful horror franchise. But now Warner Bros. has opened a new door, perhaps encouraged by the development of ‘Welcome to Derry’, the prequel horror series to ‘It’.
James Wan is also in talks to executive produce the series with Atomic Monster and The Safran Company will produce. There is nothing concrete about the series or news about whether Wilson and Farmiga would return, but could finally explore the Warrens’ museum, object by object, in the style of the vindicable ‘Friday the 13th: The Series’.
