It cannot be said that James Gunn does not answer the doubts of DC fans about his new universe. Tweeter once, tweeter always. What’s more, since he announced his plan for the first phase, there has been a question that has been asked over and over again: if Batman has a son in ‘The brave and the bold’ and Superman will be young in ‘Superman Legacy’Why not stick with Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill?
oh, ageism
James Gunn has been seen to clarify on Twitter that neither one will be so old, nor the other so young. When asked if Superman would be around 25 years old, the director replied “No! It keeps repeating itself but I never said that. People are speculating about both ages. All I said was that Superman was under forty and Batman MIGHT be a couple more years older. than Superman.”
Of course, he has also revealed that at the moment they have not done the casting for Batman so there is no way of knowing how old he will be (or what he will look like). Let’s remember that Affleck is already in his 50s while Cavill is only 39. Fans are going to be looking at his age with a magnifying glass and, probably, wondering if it is very close to that of these actors, why not continue with them after the opportune reset in ‘The flash’.
Also lately Gunn has been accused of lying to his followers when the news appeared that he was trying to make a Superman movie before directing ‘The Suicide Squad’ and some tweets in which he affirmed that he would never want to direct DC in its entirety. The accusations have offended him personally: “They offered me Superman but I did ‘The Suicide Squad’ instead. A few years later I saw how to adapt Superman and I took advantage of it. I didn’t want to be the sole CEO of DC, but then they came and offered it to me and Peter and I said yes because I could focus on the creative side. Again, I have never lied to the fans, and I never will.. That doesn’t mean I’ll never change my mind about something”. It remains to be seen if this communication strategy ends up succeeding or if Kevin Feige will continue to be the king of the superhero universes.
