The name of James Cameron It seemed that it was going to be exclusively associated with the Pandora universe, but the filmmaker has revealed that he would like to revive a project that he launched years ago. His idea would be to do it right after completing all the work with ‘Avatar 3’ and before focusing on the fourth installment of the science fiction saga.
The movie in question is ‘The Last Train to Hiroshima’adaptation of the book Charles R. Pellegrino about life in Hiroshima and Nagasaki around the time the atomic bombs fell on those cities. Cameron came to meet at the time with Tsutomu Yamaguchia man who survived both bombings and who lost his life shortly after meeting with the director of ‘Titanic’.
Cameron focused his attention on the project in 2010, the year the book was released, clarifying that would have more references in order to obtain the greatest historical rigor. It seemed that the idea had been on his list of great films that he launched to leave them undone, but in an interview with the LA Times he has made it clear that he wants to take it up again and his reasons for it:
We live in a more precarious world than we thought. I think the Hiroshima movie would be just as timely as ever, if not more. Remind people what these weapons really do when used against human targets…
Is it time to delay ‘Avatar 4’?
The problem is going to be finding the time for that wish to come true. Right now the priority is the post-production of ‘Avatar 3’, whose arrival in theaters is scheduled for December 20, 2024. The downside is that later ‘Avatar 4’ should be released on December 18, 2026, so the margin is going to be very small and could end up causing a delay of the fourth installment.
The funny thing is that This is not the first time that this possibility has arisen., since Cameron himself commented at the beginning of the year that ‘Avatar 4’ would ideally be released three years after the third part. That would mean that we would not see it until 2027. A priori it is easier to think that he will have no choice but to postpone ‘The Last Train to Hiroshima’ again.
