The promotional campaign for ‘The Sense of Water’ has led James Cameron to grant a multitude of interviews. Taking into account that the filming of ‘Avatar 3’ is already finished -a separate issue is the very long post-production process-, it was inevitable that some detail about the next one would end up escaping and now has accidentally revealed a very important change compared to the first two installments.
new narrator
Those who have seen the first two installments of the ‘Avatar’ saga will remember that both films are narrated under the point of Jake Sully, the character played by Sam Worthington. Well then, you can go forgetting about that in the third installment according to a recent interview granted by the also director of ‘Titanic’:
Lo’ak came out as a character that people relatable to, so he might find ways to… now, he’s the narrated one… oh, I’m giving something away, but it’s okay. Each of the Avatars… I think it might be intriguing for people to think about what’s to come. Jake was our voice-over narrator for Movie 1 and Movie 2, and we have a different narrator for each of the subsequent movies. We see him through the eyes of a different character, and movie 3 is through the eyes of Lo’ak
An important change and I think quite successful, because what the character of Jake Sully could contribute in this way is already exhausted. In fact, already the second installment would have appreciated having a different narrator, but better late than never. Hopefully his son Lo’ak (British Dalton) provide a fresh perspective.
Now the big question is to see which characters will perform that function in the following installments. For my part, I am very clear that it would be a disappointment if Neytiri (Zoe Saldana) does not serve as the narrator in any film in the franchise, although I would not be surprised if Cameron is reserving it for the fifth installment, let’s not forget that part of that film is going to take place on Earth.
