Six years have passed since Eduardo Casanova debuted as a director with the feature film ‘Pieles’ (a kind of spin-off of his short film ‘Eat my shit’). This Friday, January 13, the filmmaker returns to the billboard with ‘La piedad’, a surreal and excessive film with an equally delusional filming.
Under the skin
Last night, Eduardo Casanova and Ángela Molina went to ‘El hormiguero’ to talk about ‘La piedad’. His new film explores in a grotesque and excessive way (common features in Casanova’s filmography) the toxic relationship between a son and his motherinterpreted by Molina.
The two guests recounted one of the most complicated scenes of the shoot, in which Molina’s character gives birth to an adult son:
We had to make several pussies. In that scene, Angela’s character gives birth to an adult child and it’s hard for her to get out of such a small place, so different prostheses had to be made to change the pussies from bigger to smaller, depending on the shot.
Casanova assures that “has never had a worse time in life” and that required a great physical and mental effort. The filmmaker assured that it is “a very beautiful film, very difficult to see but necessary.” To which Molina added: “It is told with that delicacy that Eduardo has, but they are real cases, it is a unique film.”
Casanova began writing the film six years ago and is very pleased with the end result: “It is not a mental straw, it has an understandable narrative and it is funny“. ‘La piedad’ opens in theaters this Friday, January 13.
