The arrival of James Gunn and Peter Safran at Warner Bros. Discovery to direct the present and future of the brand new DC Studios has caused radically opposite reactions. On the one hand has fed hope of the currently disjointed DC Universe getting back on track after the Snyderverse project failed; for another, has unleashed fears and rumors of the most catastrophic.
Krypton’s Priority
Perhaps one of the cases that has most concerned the fandom in recent weeks has been related to a potential second installment of ‘Man of Steel’. The famous return of Henry Cavill as Superman in the post-credits scene of ‘Black Adam’ he brought out an illusion for the project that soon faded after contradictory information began to circulate.
The fact that Warners turned down a pitch of ‘Man of Steel 2’ presented by producer Charles Roven and, according to The Hollywood Reporter, by screenwriter Steven Knight set off some alarms that increased their volume after media such as Deadline also echoed the buzz that pointed to a recall from Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman, Jason Momoa’s Aquaman and Cavill’s Superman.
Luckily, Gunn has decided to step up and reassure the community by ensuring in a twitter message that “Superman is a big priority, if not the biggest”. A few much-needed words after the trigger that unleashed the panic last weekend: the withering cancellation of Patty Jenkins’ ‘Wonder Woman 3’.
The Jenkins Factor
The Hollywood Reporter claimed that, as reported by various sources, Jenkins had submitted a feature film treatment written with Geoff Johns that was rejected. by Gunn, Safran and Warner Bros. Pictures co-CEOs Michael De Luca and Pamela Abdy for not fitting in with DC Studios’ still-developing plans.
James Gunn has also expressed his opinion about the THR report – which also talks about the intention of shaping a new ‘Superman’ in the spirit of Richard Donner’s classic – in a Twitter thread in which he ensures that his creative decisions at the helm of DC “They’re not going to make everyone happy”.
“As to yesterday’s story in The Hollywood Reporter, some of it is true, some of it is half true, some of it is not true, and other things we haven’t decided yet are true or not. We know we’re not going to do Happy everyone with every decision, but we can promise that everything we do is in service to the story and in service to the DC characters we know you love and have loved all our lives.”
We will be waiting for any news about the convulsive construction of the new DC Universe.
