The unexpected and tragic death of Chadwick Boseman A little over two years ago, he left us without a beloved actor and got Marvel into trouble. After all, the studio was counting on him to lead the cast of ‘Black Panther 2’ again. The company ended up making the decision not to recreate him digitally or to replace him with another actor and now Kevin Feig finally explained the reasons.
“The world is still processing the loss of Chadwick”
In a chat with Empire, the Marvel boss has reviewed different aspects of the long-awaited sequel to ‘Black Panther’, but, without a doubt, the most interesting thing was the moment in which he clarified that “it was too soon“so another actor could take Boseman’s place. This is what he said about it:
It was too early to replace him with someone else. Stan Lee always said that Marvel represents the world outside his window. And we had talked about how as extraordinary and fantastic as our characters and stories are, there is a human and relatable element in everything we do. The world is still processing the loss of Chadwick. And Ryan Coogler turned that into the story.
For this reason, paying the tribute that Boseman deserved became a fundamental part of ‘Black Panther 2’. Without going into details of how they have done it, Feige points out that “it all revolved around, “What do we do now and how does Chadwick’s legacy, everything he’s done to help Wakanda and to make Black Panther into someone incredible, aspirational and iconic, continue? That’s what it’s all about.”“.
Luckily, we won’t have to wait long to find out what Feige is referring to, since ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’ will be released next year. November 11th. In addition, it will be the film that serves to close Marvel’s controversial Phase 4so surely the studio has a few surprises in store for us by then.
