After the presentation of the first trailer for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, many have wondered who will be the next Black Panther. We could have the answer (Spoilers beware)
After the panel in Hall H at Marvel Studios at the San Diego Comic-Conmany were the media that questioned the actress who plays Shuri, Letitia Wright, if the princess of Wakanda will be the next Black Panther in the film directed by Ryan Coogler.
At Comic Con held this weekend in San Diego, MTV News asked Letitia Wright if Shuri is wearing the costume of Black Panther At the end of the trailer, Wright was coy about it, telling him that everyone should buy their tickets to find out: “I don’t know what you’re talking about, but on November 11 you get your ticket.”
In a separate interview with Access, Wright discussed how the cast and crew of Wakanda Forever came together to work on the sequel while continuing to honor the late Chadwick Boseman:
“It was an incredible experience. It was also very emotional. It wasn’t as easy as you know, it probably looks like on the outside. It was a lot of days trying to pinch us like, ‘Are we really doing this? Do you really continue without the brother [Chadwick]?’ But, we joined, and [Ryan Coogler] he really kept us together in terms of the script he wrote. He wanted me to honor [Chadwick]. He wanted it to honor the legacy that he started and also wanted to expand on it and that’s something you can look forward to. There is a beautiful world to discover and we are very excited about it and we have amazing new cast members like Tenoch [Huerta]”.
Shuri will be the new Black Panther in Wakanda forever
In Black Panther: Wakanda ForeverMarvel has to deal with the untimely death of Chadwick Boseman and introduce a new/new Black Panther.
Marvel already confirmed that he would not be changing the role. Therefore, the plot of Wakanda Forever had to be altered to account for real life events. Marvel will need time to explain King T’Challa’s death, and explore the aftermath of that event. In addition, the film will have to show how the witness of the replacement of the Marvel superhero is picked up.
Now we could have an idea of the plot of the movie thanks to a leak from the well-known Daniel Richtman, famous for revealing the plot of other Marvel movies before. And although it is not a very detailed version of the plot. It’s enough to answer some of the biggest questions left by the trailer. (Spoiler alert from here on)
How does the plot deal with T’Challa’s death?
If the filtration of the plot of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is accurate, T’Challa will die of some kind of disease. It’s unclear what illness will kill him, but this seems like the right way to deal with Boseman’s passing in real life.
We don’t expect to see T’Challa digitally recreated for the sequel, so these events will take place off-screen.
While the King might be dead, T’Challa and Nakia (Lupita Nyong’o) could have a child, the plot leak tells us. However, he will not become the Black Panther in Wakanda Forever.
Who will be the villain of Wakanda Forever?
According to leaks and as confirmed by the trailer, Namor will be the main villain of the film. An ocean quest will awaken the Atlantean king, leading to war between Wakanda and Atlantis. Riri Williams (Dominique Thorne) will be in the thick of it all, with her vibranium-seeking technology responsible for Namor’s awakening.
It’s unclear from the plot leak why Namor would want to kill Riri. He will appear in his own Disney Plus series, Ironheart.
Wakanda will defeat Namor’s Atlantis, but the villain will not die. So if some expected another villain to appear on the scene causing the two nations to unite to fight against a common evil, it seems that we will not see it.
Who is the new Black Panther?
Black Panther, as we heard at the Comic Con presentation from the team, will be at the heart of everything in Wakanda Forever. The leak indicates that it will be Shuri (Letitia Wright), T’Challa’s sister, who will take her brother’s place as the new Black Panther.
The Wakanda Forever plot leak says that she will create an artificial flower to access the Ancestral Plane and become the next Black Panther. She expects to meet her brother there, but she will see Killmonger (Michael B. Jordan) instead.
Shuri will make her own suit and defeat Namor without killing him. Interestingly, Shuri will not inherit the throne either. It will be M’Baku (Winston Duke) who will become king, if this Wakanda Forever plot leak is accurate.
Shuri’s choice as Black Panther would be following in the footsteps of the Marvel comics. In Black Panther vol. 4 #2 released May 2005. Shuri is tested and found suitable for the role of Black Panther and ruler of Wakanda, to stand in for T’Challa while he recovers from battle injuries.
First appearance of Doctor Doom
Finally, the plot leak also mentions one of the film’s post-credits scenes. The war between Wakanda and Atlantis begins after a team of scientists begins searching for vibranium in the ocean.
The post-credits scene could explain that Doctor Doom is the brains behind that team. He might be interested in vibranium. But the leak does not say it, however rumors have been heard that the villain will appear in the film’s credits, and on the other hand, Howard Stern recently confirmed that he would be involved in a project with the Fantastic Four villain, without revealing which Marvel movie or TV series you’ll be working on this summer.
