The new era of streaming It has already reached our lands. Does this mean that we will now have 8k resolutions? Dreamy bitrates that show virtually no compression artifacts? Dream catalogs with audio commentaries and tons of extras like the ones that grace physical formats? Nothing of that. The revolution is none other than… The advertisements!
Ads in 720p… with a discount
After the last details about its new “Basic with ads” plan were confirmed about a month ago, Today at 5:00 p.m. the new Netflix subscription lands in Spain at a juicy price 5.49 euros per month; a most interesting alternative for those who are frightened by the advertising blocks that bombard television broadcasts during prime time.
It should be remembered that, in addition to the batches of spots, estimated at between 4 and 5 minutes for each hour of content —distributed both before and during playback—, this modality will have more limitations, starting with a 720p resolution that you share with the Basic plan. Also, it will not be available download service for offline consumption.
However, the most annoying thing is the absence of several prestigious productions, both original and licensed. Among them are titles like ‘House of Cards’, ‘Arrested Development’, ‘Cobra Kai’, ‘Peaky Blinders’, ‘The Sinner’, The Good Place’; a handful of examples drawn from a list estimated at 250 series, movies and documentaries that they cannot be seen on US soil and that it remains to be seen what it translates into according to the rights dances of Spain.
So now you know. Starting this afternoon you can choose to save a few euros with the Basic plan with ads at 5.49 euros or opt for the Basic without advertising for 2.50 euros more. If you prefer to increase the viewing quality, there is no other option but to go to the Standard plan for 12.99 euros —with 1080p resolution and simultaneous download on two devices— or at Premiumwhich offers us 4k content for 17.99 euros and downloads to four devices.
