The Wakanda Forever director stated that the MCU’s Namor is as strong as Thor and the Hulk, but that’s not the case in Marvel Comics.
Recently, the director of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Ryan Coogler, compared the power of the Namor (Tenoch Huerta) of the MCU, to place him on a par with Thor and the Hulk, however, reviewing the history of Marvel Comics we see that, in the universe of vignettes, it is not like that.

In a recent interview hosted by Marvel, writer-director Ryan Coogler addressed Namor’s power, noting that he can not only swim incredibly fast and fly, but: “[No hay] no equal in terms of his abilities, being able to breathe underwater as well as at great heights, and can also walk on land. He’s incredibly strong, he’s as strong as Thor, and if he’s around enough water he can be as strong as the Hulk.”
However, if we look at the Marvel Comics archives, we see that Namor is a step below great powerful like Hulk or Thor, which seems that it will not be the case in the MCU.
In the comics, is Namor as strong as the Hulk and Thor?
In 1981, in the pages of The Amazing Spider-Man Annual #15, writer Mark Gruenwald and artist Bob Layton dispelled this doubt. In the three pages of the “Just How Strong Is … Spider-Man?” section, Marvel heroes are placed in different categories of physical power, without considering other abilities.
At the top level are the “Super Heavyweights”, among which we have the Hulk, Thor, Hercules, Wonder-Man and Iron Man (thanks to his armor).
They are followed by the Heavyweights, a group to which Namor belongs with other champions such as La Mole, Black Volt and Vision, among others.
The lower categories are made up of the “Super Middleweights” (with Spider-Man, She-Hulk and Silver Surfer, among others) and the “Middleweights” (Spider-Woman, Tigra, The Beast and more). Finally there are the disguised ones without powers, with normal strength but great training. And it is perhaps the category that has changed the most over time, because in this list characters such as Wolverine, Captain America, Black Panther and Iron Fist appear with normal strength, who in other versions do have superhuman strength.
By the way, to pique your curiosity, this issue also contains a diagram of Peter Parker’s apartment and the main story pits the Punisher against Spider-Man in an adventure narrated by Dennis O’Neil with art by Frank Miller. How are you!
