Recently, during a conference, the Government of Mexico announced the details of phase seven of the coronavirus vaccination process and, for the first time, children between 5 and 11 years of age will be included.
Hugo López-Gatell, head of the Undersecretary for Prevention and Health Promotion in Mexico, clarified that unlike other stages, this process will be activated by municipalities and the registration to obtain the vaccine will be available from June 16.
There is a new change in the National Policy against covid-19 that consists of the following… We are going to open with children from 5 to 11 years of age… The contract with the Pfizer company for the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine has already been signed, let’s go to acquire around eight million doses that will allow us to start this vaccination process.
The modality will be mainly in health centers but also in some temporary units such as macro-centers and other special units. You have to be aware of the call for each municipality, it will not be simultaneous for the entire country.
As of June 16, parents and/or guardians will be able to register minors on the mivacuna.salud.gob.mx portal.
It is worth mentioning that the World Health Organization (WHO) stated that the dose of the Pfizer vaccine proved to be highly effective. In addition, it offers a great immune response and similar results regarding safety.
According to Pfizer, its vaccine is 90.7 percent effective against symptomatic cases in children 5 to 11 years old. In May 2022, the pharmaceutical company published the results of its vaccine based on the administration of three doses to about 1,305 children, detecting only three coronavirus infections among them.
