Fill our houses with large plants and green leaves it’s life. They decorate any corner and give a natural touch to any room. In addition, they help us relax and make the atmosphere of our home much more pleasant. Of course, when choosing a plant, we must take into account the conditions in which it will live and the time we are going to invest in caring for it. For this reason, it is better that we choose to have all-terrain plants at home like the one we bring you today: a resistant and decorative plant that for something can boast of being Best seller at Ikea.
Better known as the areca palm, the golden fruit palm or the bamboo palm, the Dypsis lutescens is one of the most popular palm trees in Spanish homes. And in parallel, it is the best-selling plant at Ikea.
It is a species of tropical palm native to Madagascar that is an ideal plant for both homes and offices with dry environments, since it humidifies the air. In fact, according to NASA, it is one of the indoor plants that we should all have at home due to its ability to purify the air, thanks to its high rate of transpiration, as well as its ability to eliminate toxins from indoor air.
The one sold at Ikea is 24 centimeters high and, unlike the rest of the Swedish firm’s catalogue, this areca palm can only be purchased in physical stores. Lastly, its price is €29.99.

How to care for the areca palm
Place the plant in a bright space but avoiding direct sunlight. It can also survive in semi-shade areas. As it is a tropical palm tree, can’t stand the cold. Avoid exposing it to temperatures below 15º. Its ideal temperature is between 18 and 25º.
Also, when looking for a place for it, keep in mind that it is very sensitive to air currents. The areca should always have a slightly moist substrate. Water your plant regularlyevery two or three days in summer, while in winter you have to reduce watering to when you see that the substrate begins to be dry (although without flooding it).
Creates adequate environmental humidity and sprays its leaves in the hottest months. Pour into the substrate fertilizer for palm trees to maintain its striking green color and dust it from time to time so that the plant absorbs as much light as it can.
