Nobody expected anything from her, but the algorithm has put it in the best position and from there it has become a phenomenon. ‘The Night Agent’ is Netflix’s latest effort in the field of the perfect thriller to have as a background, and many have fallen for its proposal without question, making it one of the most watched series on the platform.
The truth is that its combination of espionage and terrorism already make it have a minimum to entertain. But if the plan is to have tense and threatening action, we have here three great examples of political thriller that can be enjoyed on streaming and that they will provide a more than wonderful time to those who have become hooked on the Netflix agent.
THE 10 BEST SERIES OF THE DECADE (2010-2019)
’24’ (2001-2010)
Created by: Joel Surnow, Robert Cochran. Distribution: Kiefer Sutherland, Elisha Cuthbert, Mary Lynn Rajskub, Dennis Haysbert, Carlos Bernard.
Probably the father of all action and terrorism thrillers of this century, with a truly unique model that made her stand out completely and become a phenomenon. Few series refreshed free-to-air television as much as ’24’, which added to the explosive and intriguing premise its way of unfolding the plot from one hour per episode.
Kiefer Sutherland perfectly reinvented himself as a mature thriller protagonist and as a television star, with a character like Jack Bauer who became a benchmark at the time. There are few series that better condense what was the first decade of this century (culturally and at the level of anxiety about the terrorist threat) than this resounding hit.

‘Homelands’ (2011-2020)

Created by: Howard Gordon, Alex Gansa, Gideon Raff. Distribution: Claire Danes, Damian Lewis, Mandy Patinkin, Rupert Friend, F. Murray Abraham.
It did not reach the massive levels of ’24’ because television rarely creates very similar gigantic phenomena in a row, but the truth is that ‘Homeland’ was the one that best knew how to take over from ’24’. At a peak moment for fiction when it comes to touching on the United States military intervention abroad, especially in the Middle East, this Showtime series put his finger on the sore with a complex and intriguing proposal.
Claire Danes also established herself as a TV star as a chaotic but tenacious CIA agent investigating a possible terrorist threat from a resurfaced Marine sergeant played by Damian Lewis (also very prominent). She had her ups and downs with the development of the seasons, but she threw very accurate darts and I wasn’t afraid to risk. Its first two seasons at least are a must.

‘Bodyguard’ (2018)

Created by: Jed Mercury. Distribution: Richard Madden, Keeley Hawes, Stuart Bowman, Tom Brooke, Claire-Louise Cordwell.
Another of those thriller sensations that Netflix manufactures out of nowhere and become inescapable, like ‘The Night Agent’. Although, to be fair, this one manages to be several levels above thanks to that purely british efficiency that it has burned into its DNA. Pure BBC spirit elevated to its most addictive and powerful facet.
The miniseries is a lesson in how to craft intrigue and the terrorist threat, cunningly using it to denounce the UK’s political climate and its military interventions. Richard Madden is presented as a solid protagonist for a fast-paced and entertaining proposalalthough also capable of inquiring into complex moral aspects.
