As always when I talk about his work, today I feel obliged to remember that it is very difficult for Antoine Fuqua to miss a shot with one of his productions. For this reason, when ‘Objective: The White House’ was released in a distant 2013, it was to be expected that his commitment to a carefree actioner with an old spiritwithout dazzling, offered one of the most appealing wild shows of its year.
What was much more difficult to predict is that the shooting salad starring Gerard Butler would end up becoming one of the most profitable film franchises of the last decade thanks to two sequels that, honest to the truth, did not even come to match the level of the original film.
good escapism
But the understandable drop in quality —not fun, let’s say it all— of ‘Objective: London’ and ‘Objective: Washington DC’ is not at odds with the fact that a couple of years ago we celebrated the announcement that a fourth installment of the ‘Objective’ saga —’Has Fallen’ for English speakers—was underway under the title of ‘Night Has Fallen’ and with Butler back at the helm of the show.
Since then, no more information about the project has transpired, but during an interview with ComicBook.com, the Scottish actor has dropped that the feature film is still alive, they have a pretty juicy idea in their hands and that he aspires to become, nothing less, than a sort of Tom Hanks from action movies.
“We have a script, but I haven’t been working on it yet. We have a really fun idea, it just needs to be fleshed out. Doing action has been fun lately. I’d say I want to be sort of like the Tom Hanks of action movies. Let me take a break from Mike Banning, having literally seven or eight action sequences in every movie, punching fights, and claiming the characters are real, that they have to get something extraordinary out of them that audiences can relate to, because that It’s what we need right now.”
Also, Butler has vindicated the escapist aspect of this type of tapeso necessary in a world whose reality is increasingly suffocating.
“In a way, we need real heroes. Life is hard, it’s kind of an escape, and I think that going to movies like this and putting yourself in the middle of those hellish, challenging situations, and then being able to come out again and get some ideas or something inspiration from them having a lot of fun, it’s cool. It’s great to make those movies that are an escape route.”
For the moment we will have to be patient while we wait for a ‘Night Has Fallen’ that still It does not have production start dates, much less premiere.
