Michael Keaton has commented that he doesn’t have time to watch superhero movies, despite having groomed himself to play two legendary characters in Marvel and DC movies over the years. He played Bruce Wayne/Batman in 1989’s ‘Batman’ and 1992’s ‘Batman Returns’, and played Adrian Toomes, the vulture in ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ (2019), making him one of the exclusive actors They appear in both the DC Universe and Marvel Cinematic Universe.
“I’m not saying this to play the intellectual”
With the actor reprising his role as the caped crusader in DC’s next installment “The Flash,” opposite Ben Affleck, Keaton told Variety in a recent interview that not a fan of the movies:
“I know people don’t buy it, but I’ve never seen a full version of any of those movies, any Marvel movies, any other. And I’m not saying I don’t see them because I’m an intellectual, believe me! It’s not that. It’s just that I see very few things. I start watching something and I think it’s great and I watch three episodes, but I have other things to do!
On donning the bat suit againthe veteran actor also spoke about the process:
“I was curious what it would be like after so many years. Not so much me doing it, there’s obviously something to that, but I was rather curious about it, weirdly, on a social level. All of this is gigantic. They have their own world. So, I like to see him as an outsider, thinking ‘Holy crap!’”
The actor said that felt compelled to sign for ‘The Flash’opening June 23, 2023, from the screenplay by ‘Birds of Prey’ screenwriter Christina Hodson:
“The project seemed like fun and the script was really really good. So I thought, why not? It’s great to come back, and I’m curious to see if I can pull it off.”
