The eighth episode of ‘The House of the Dragon’ was outstanding and laid the foundation for what is to come in the HBO Max series. An especially key event in this regard was –watch out for spoilers– Viserys’s death during his final moments. The death of the character played by Paddy Considine It is already officially confirmed and the actor wanted to write an emotional message as a farewell.
“It’s been an incredible adventure”
Considine has received a multitude of messages praising his work after the broadcast of ‘The Lord of the Tides’, including one from himself George R.R. Martin telling him that his Viserys was better than the one he had written. For this reason, he has not hesitated to publish the following text on his Instagram, where he has also revealed what was the key to finish shaping his magnificent interpretation:
Thank you for your kind words. I can’t reply to all the messages, but I would like to acknowledge that they haven’t escaped me. It has been an incredible adventure in which I have made many new friends who will be with me for the rest of my life. I would like to thank the creators for allowing me the freedom to make Viserys my own. I have never loved a character so much. I want to give a lot of love and respect to Sian Brooke, who only came in for a few days, but she changed the course of my character with her brilliant performance and her commitment to the job. The impact stayed with me until my last impromptu words.
She unlocked the missing piece of the puzzle and allowed my story to come full circle. From the moment she dies, so does Viserys. It was a love story. That is the secret I carried with me. No matter how sick he is, he himself never demands any cure. He calmly accepts his suffering, never forgiving himself for putting his beloved wife through such torture in his last moments. Viserys was a gift. I feel very honored that he found me. Now, no more.
Good detail from Considine highlighting the work of Sian Brooke in the first episode of the series. Then I thought that Viserys could be condemned to be a hateful character after the hard decision he makes, but then he turned out to be the only one in all of ‘The House of the Dragon’ who can be said to be a good person and tried to do things in a way fair. A separate issue is that this led him to make many mistakes as king.
