Tape “Love actually”directed by Richard Curtis, has become a classic of the Christmas season; features a multi-stellar cast, with actor Hugh grant in the first credit. But he was not at all satisfied with a particular sequence, which shows his character -the British Prime Minister- dancing one night to the theme jump of The Pointer Sisters.
In an interview for the special of ABC “The laughter and secrets of Love Actually: 20 years later” Grant commented that he hates that scene: “I saw it in the script and I thought, ‘Well, I’m going to hate doing that.’ He didn’t feel like doing the dance at all, let alone rehearsing it. To this day there are many people, and I agree with them, who think that it is the most horrifying scene that has been put on celluloid. Some people like it. But I’ll give myself this credit: It was my idea to get caught by a secretary at the end. Genius. By the way, I’m out of rhythm. Especially in the beginning, when I’m shaking my butt.”
Despite his refusals, Hugh had to do the scene by contract., and although Curtis commented that the actor was “very grumpy” on the day of filming, the result was very satisfying. “It’s just perfect,” he said.
