During the first season of ‘Ms. Marvel’ we have seen kamala khan trying to understand the origin of his powers and gradually become to them. Although they differ quite a bit from how they are in the comics, the Disney+ series He has managed to give his powers their own style, and especially in the last episode they have managed to shine completely and give him the spark they needed with a little anime-inspired.
Warning, spoilers for the final episode of the ‘Ms Marvel’ series!
EMBIGGEN! to the anime
In the fight between Kamala and the Damage Control Department we could see Kamala using her stretch powers and making all kinds of constructs with them. And according Bilall Fallah and Adil El Arbidirectors and executive producers of ‘Ms. Marvel’they found the inspiration for Kamala’s combat style in none other than ‘Dragon Ball’.
“Together with our visual effects artist Nordin Hahhali, we were exploring what we could do with these powers and have that Embiggen!” moment, Fallah explained in an interview with ComicBook. “It’s an image that’s very manga, almost ‘Dragon Ball’ influenced. We had all these cool things that we explored, and I think when we were with it we felt like there was so much we could do, and I think we’ve just touched the tip of the iceberg”.
Just as Kamala manages to master her powers, the crystals cover her body with a kind of glowing aura, similar to that of the Saiyan when they release their full potential… like Gohan in his fight against Cell or, going to something more recent, Goku’s transformation into Ultra Instinct.
It is not the first time that the anime inspires a production of “Casa Disney”, since those responsible for “Red” also admitted all the series and movies that influenced the production. Although of course, if we talk about combat, there is no doubt that ‘Dragon Ball’ is at the forefront when it comes to leaving us frantic duels and plenty of inspiration for protagonists who unleash their powers.
