the very famous song “All I Want for Christmas Is You” of the singer of Mariah Carey is a success every year.
Some love Christmas, some hate Christmas, but it’s definitely one of the better times economically for the singer.
This is because the melody has become an omnipresent anthem with the arrival of December since it was launched in 1994, and to this day it continues to generate a lot of money for Mariah.
The melody earned $60 million in royalties since its launch, which is $2.6 million a year, according to a 2017 article in The Economist.
But it’s unclear if the song has generated the same amount of money since that year.
Although, if the song is as successful this holiday season, Carey could be looking for a staggering amount of $75 million just from that Christmas classic.
The most ironic thing about this is that in the message of the song, it is that Mariah doesn’t want a lot of things for Christmas.
Also, the popularity of the song has not decreased since the years in which royalties were calculated. In fact, “All I Want for Christmas Is You” tops the singles chart in several countries, including the UK.
The song debuted at number five and peaked at number two on the UK Singles Chart when it was first released in 1994.
Since then, the song’s highest in the Big Top 40 was number six, in 2011.
Carey detailed to Entertainmet Weekly of where did you find the inspiration for the song: “I wrote the beginning and the middle on the keyboard in a small house in upstate New York, in a single room.”
“I started thinking about all things Christmas and growing up as a kid who loves Christmas. I think that’s why it’s such a festive record,” she added.
In 2021, it climbed to the top of the Billboard Hot 100 for the third year in a row. With the song of almost three decades, that achievement is incredibly rare.
Despite all the love the song receives, there is also many people who hate her. A survey published by Huawei asked Britons to vote on what they considered the “most annoying of the holidays”, and Carey’s seasonal hit topped the list by a wide margin.
