Although consumption is present, studies regarding the effects on the body are still being done. In this case, researchers from the Clínic de Barcelona and the August Pi i Sunyer Biomedical Research Institute (IDIBAPS) have determined that consumption of risk to human health occurs with five or more joints a week.
This study, which has focused on the population of the Iberian nation, has reviewed the implications for people who maintain a high consumption pattern and that may represent a risk to the integrity of the person.
Although in the study they have determined that there are population groups in which any consumption, regardless of its frequency and intensity, represents a significant risk to health. In the case of those under 21 years of age, pregnant and lactating women or people who suffer from physical illnesses (heart or respiratory problems) or mental health are particularly vulnerable with active cannabis use.
In Mexico, during the period of sanitary isolation, the consumption of hard drugs in adolescents and young people between the ages of 15 and 24 increased by 15%; on the other hand, the consumption of marijuana increased by 17% and that of alcohol, by 14%. Segregating by age group becomes more alarming, since adolescents between 15 and 17 years of age have increased their consumption of hard drugs more than young adults.
Adolescents and young people with a higher economic status not only consume more marijuana and alcohol, but have also increased their consumption more during the period of isolation compared to those of lower social status.
According to studies carried out in Spain, defining a limit of five joints per week in the case of adults can be a resource to keep a record of consumption. However, experts say that no amount of cannabis is totally safe, emphasizing the case of those under 21 years of age.
