After the ‘The Last of Us’ series, another very popular video game will hit the big screen. This time, it’s Hideo Kojima’s action game ‘Death Stranding’, who has teamed up with Alex Lebovici’s Hammerstone Studios, the production company behind the horror hit ‘Barbarian’, to develop and produce the film, based on the 2019 video game.
This will be the first film for Kojima Productions and will introduce new elements and characters in the world of ‘Death Stranding’As Kojima told Variety:
“I couldn’t be more excited about this new partnership with Hammerstone Studios. This is a pivotal moment for the franchise and I’m looking forward to collaborating with them to bring ‘Death Stranding’ to the big screen.”
The film’s executive producers include Kojima and Lebovici, through its production companies, and Kojima Production US and Allan Ungar. Hammerstone Studios will fully finance the film, according to Lebovici:
“We are excited and honored to have the opportunity to partner with the brilliant and iconic Hideo Kojima on his first film adaptation. Unlike other big-budget video game adaptations, this one will be something much more intimate and grounded. Our goal is to redefine what a video game adaptation could be when you have creative and artistic freedom. This film will be an authentic ‘Hideo Kojima’ production.”
