James Gunnthe new coordinator of DC superhero movies and the new Christmas special of ‘Guardians of the Galaxy: Happy Holidays Special’, has explained the great change of Groot in the recent medium-length filma comedy that appeared on the Disney+ platform that serves as a hinge between phase 4 and 5 of the MCU.

The special follows Drax and Mantis as they travel to Earth to find and capture Kevin Bacon to make him a living Christmas present for Peter Quill, still mourning the loss of Gamora. But, in the midst of all the action, we’re also shown Groot, previously seen as a young teenager in ‘Infinity War’ and ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’, but now seems to have grown substantially. He is not only taller and bulkier, but also more mature.
Gunn has confirmed some of the details about this new version of Groot, and how it has impacted his personality. Responding to a fan on Twitter, he said:
“Well, YA Groot, or Swoll Groot as we call it, is getting bigger, both outward and upward. As you can see now, he has a different, more robust physiology (and more outgoing personality) than his father had.”

The director makes it clear that when this Groot grows up he will be very different from the Groot we saw in the first movie of ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’, from a broader complexion to a less shy personality, making it clear that it is not a pure clone, but like any cutting, it will develop its own morphology. .
