When a person is focused and has their goals in life firm, regardless of the sacrifices, their commitment stands out among all things and they show that with dedication, hard work, determination and effort they can achieve everything they set out to do, standing out and showing That things don’t just happen by chance.
Just like the story of this 14-year-old teenager, who, seeing that his grandfather’s truck had broken down and with the commitment to get to his graduation ceremony, didn’t think twice and walked 10 kilometers to get to the event venue. , for which he received an incredible reward for his efforts.
The name of the protagonist of this story is Xavier Jones, a 14-year-old boy from St. Louis, Missouri, United States, who was in eighth grade. Having no way to get to the graduation ceremony with which he celebrated the end of courses, he walked about two and a half hours to get to the place where the event would take place, without imagining that the school would reward him for it.
Because the graduation would not be held at Yeatman Middle School, where he attended, but at Harris-Stowe State University, Xavier looked up the location on Google Maps and seeing that the distance was not as far as he thought, he set out. to walk to the campus, with the sole purpose of receiving their end-of-course diploma.
I looked up Harris-Stowe University on Google Maps and then I saw the walking distance and so I said I probably could do it. I wanted to walk.
–Xavier Jones
In addition to being surprising for having walked so many kilometers to receive his end-of-course recognition, another of the things that most caught the attention of the school authorities was that Xavier’s shoes had holes in both the bottom and the top, so they assumed that it was more difficult for him to walk all the way to the compound.
After hearing the story of the boy committed to his studies, Latonia Collins Smith, director of Harris Stowe State University, moved to see that Xavier is one of the many cases of young people who have to face many barriers to complete their studies, awarded him a Scholarship for him to study at said campus when he graduated from the institute, as well as books and all academic payments.
However, that was not the only gift the boy received, but when his story went viral, during a basketball game he was given an electric bicycle worth about $5,000. In addition, his family was given a minivan valued at $40,000, this so that they can move without having to go through calamities like the ones that happened on Xavier’s graduation day.
