There is a famous saying to allude to the fact that a father abandoned his wife and children, and it is the colloquial expression “he went to buy cigarettes and never came back”. However, it is not always the men who leave home, there are more and more women who feel that they cannot handle the responsibility of a house and decide to go away and continue with their lives.
Such is the case of the wife of this single father, who after he told her that he would go to the market to buy some things that he needed, hours passed and he did not return. It was thus that she completely left him the responsibility and care of her six small children.
Gerardo González Anaya is a 48-year-old man who lives in the municipality of Escobedo in the state of Nuevo León, Mexico, and for four years has had a hard time raising his six children Leonardo, Tadeo, Blanca, Toño, Brisa and Oscar, who are between 4 and 14 years old.
I am a single father, I take care of my six children and I do my best for them, but now that my only support is gone, the truth is difficult, because I have to be with my children, take them to school, but I also have have to work to keep them.
After the abandonment of his wife, Gerardo had the support of his mother, who helped him with the housework and the care of his children. Unfortunately, she passed away and he was left without any kind of support, so he was forced to quit his two jobs to spend more time with his little ones and at the same time make money to support them.
Before, I was a waiter and guard and, well, I was even cleaning the house, but since my mother got sick and died it has been very complicated, now I wake up at 6:00 am, I get the children ready to go to school. They all have different schedules, but I attend to all of them and I have to work in the afternoon as long as I can, but the truth is that I make little money.
For four years, the man has been forced to think only about his children, he has had to leave his jobs and adjust his schedules to be able to keep an eye on his little ones’ studies, so he works as he can and earns around 800 Mexican pesos a week, approximately 38 dollars.
I thought that I was going to take care of my children, dress them, put on their shoes, feed them and give them everything that was in my possibilities, and well here we go.
With all his effort and the greatest love for his children, this single father does everything possible so that they do not lack bread on the table and to be able to cover all their basic needs. A man who deserves all the admiration, respect and recognition for being an example of a good father.
