These are some of the most haunted places in Mexico that you can visit, some from the outside, others even from the inside.
The house of tubes (Monterrey)
Perhaps the most famous contemporary legend in all of Mexico: a man of resources moves to Monterrey with the intention of building a house where his daughter, suffering from mobility problems and forced to use a wheelchair, can roam freely. It doesn’t take him long to find an architect who devises a building with tubular structures that can house countless ramps. The construction began without incident, until small events began to occur: tools disappeared, sounds were heard, shadows were seen… until finally an employee died. But the work did not stop. The ultimate tragedy occurred when the man in question went to the site almost finished, accompanied by his daughter so that she could see his new home. But in an oversight the little girl disappeared and she only reappeared when she was seen as she was thrown into the void from an unfinished ramp. Everything was canceled and the property remained as unfinished as abandoned for years, until in 2016 it was demolished. There are still those who visit the place, convinced that beyond the new walls that now rise, the horrors continue.
Juarez Hospital (CDMX)
Not all ghosts are threatening, as there are some who dedicate their eternity to helping others. Such is the case of La Planchada. The famous Mexican legend has different versions, but the most famous tells of a nurse who earned the affection of all patients for the great care and professionalism with which she treated them. But tragedy struck and she died, not of a legendary death but of love, after being deceived by a doctor with whom she was deeply in love. This prevented him from finding eternal rest for her and she ended up wandering for all eternity in the corridors of the hospital. Whether they are patients or medical personnel, there are many who claim to have seen her, wearing that white and starched uniform that gives her her name. It is worth noting that, although the entity is usually related to the Juárez Hospital, there are those who claim to have seen it in the corridors of the General Hospital, also in Mexico City.
Trick Street (Guanajuato)
Unlike so many Mexican legends that take place in uncertain places, the one about the trick street has a wonderfully defined point: Guanajuato capital. Countless tourists wander day and night along this street located in the heart of the city, unaware that it was precisely here that the devil himself appeared to trick a compulsive gambler into keeping the soul of his wife. If you’re out there, be very careful! If a fashionable individual approaches you on a moonless night to invite you to play an innocent game of cards, it could be the devil himself.
Island of the Dolls (CDMX)
Impossible to remain impassive before one of the spookiest spots in Xochimilco: a gloomy islet decorated with countless decadent toys. This is the Island of the Dolls, which had no problem becoming one of the favorite spots for those who enjoy spooky stories. The legend begins with Julián Santana Barrera, an inhabitant of the place, finding the corpse of a girl floating in the canals and whose spirit began to manifest itself since then. To torment him to draw him back again and again to the point where she died. These terrible experiences motivated him to start the disturbing collection of him that he accumulated for more than 25 years and that allegedly drove him to the brink of madness. Everything was to keep the spirit calm. Did he make it? The man died of a heart attack in 2001 and his body was found in the same waters where he once found the little girl.

The ghost town of Misnebalam (Yucatan)
The history surrounding this site is as tragic as it is intriguing. A hacienda that reached its peak in the 19th century during the golden age of henequen, but was abruptly abandoned at the beginning of the 20th century. Some say that the site ran out of water; others that the place began to suffer all kinds of paranormal events; both agree that the debacle began with the murder of its owner Fidencio G. Márquez in 1921. Whatever the truth, the century of abandonment and the climatic conditions of the place have contributed to creating a creepy atmosphere, further enhanced by the many stories of apparitions. Like that of Juliancito, a boy who, afflicted by the ghosts of the place, chose to take his own life to become one more. There are tours that visit the site, so getting to know it is easy. Of course, none dares to stay beyond sunset.
Magic Kingdom (Veracruz)
It is common for amusement parks to have one or another legend, less usual is that they are allegedly haunted in their entirety. Such is the case of Magical Kingdom, opened to the public in 1988 and closed a few years later. Presumably due to a series of political and economic conflicts, although there are also those who think that it is due to a curse that afflicts the place. Popular belief says that, given the lack of space, those responsible took over ten hectares of a neighboring cemetery, which involved the exhumation of several bodies, do you know where we are going? The most famous legends say that the angry spirits did not take long to manifest themselves: they plunged people into the pools and gave life to the fairy-tale figures that decorated the surroundings, the most notable being the Snow White dwarfs. Some areas of the block are still open to the public and one or another brave man takes the opportunity to enter the abandoned and cursed park in search of the truth.
Lecumberri Palace (CDMX)
The one that today is the General Archive of the Nation, was at the time one of the most brutal prisons in the entire history of the country. Inaugurated in 1900 during the government of Porfirio Díaz, the building was designed to house about 800 inmates, which mattered little to his administration, which accumulated a population of up to 4,000 people who lived overcrowded and in subhuman conditions. This contributed to skyrocketing levels of corruption and internal violence, which in turn resulted in sanctions, disappearances, and even deaths that remain unanswered to this day. Many of them political. It closed its doors as a prison in 1977 and the building changed its functions in 1982, but legend has it that many of the prisoners stayed for eternity, continuously manifesting themselves through screams and apparitions that torment everyone who works there.
The tomb of La Llorona (Guanajuato)
The legend of La Llorona can be heard throughout Mexico and throughout Latin America, but if there is a place where it gains special strength, it is in Guanajuato. Perhaps it is because of its cobbled streets or its long tunnels, or the fact that the alleged tomb of the disgraced woman is located there. In the Siete Reales hacienda, located on the Guanajuato-Dolores Hidalgo highway, lies an old tomb dated 1913. It has no remains inside, since it is a symbolic construction made by the local residents, who cooperated to build it with the hope of giving eternal rest to the soul in pain and of this end with the lamentations that resounded in the night. There are many who visit it and more than one ensures that when approaching you can hear the cry of oh, my children!
Avocado Alley (CDMX)
Coyoacán is a magical place at any time of the day, but walking its streets at night can become frightening for some. It is said that the popular neighborhood is plagued by apparitions that manifest themselves in different corners, but none as disturbing as the Callejón del Aguacate. There are many stories that surround this site, among the most famous are that of the ghost of a hanged boy, that of a girl run over after being tricked by the devil, or that of the floating head of a decapitated man. There is also talk of more urban curses, such as a mass murder caused by a Ouija board. Which are true and which are false? Nobody knows it, but the sensations of anger, sadness and pain are palpable for all who walk through it, whether day or night. It is said that the residents of the place placed a virgin in a corner for protection from demons and ghosts, which only increases the aura of mystery of the cursed corner.
