After 30 years in the DC Universe, the reason why Harley Quinn never abandoned the Joker is finally known, in an explanation not suitable for all audiences
Harley Quinn and Joker were for years one of the scariest couples in the DC Universe, but since their breakup, Harley has explored other paths, which have led her into the arms of Poison Ivy.

But despite having a stable relationship with Ivy, why was Harley Quinn captivated by the Joker in the first place? The short answer is a sexual attraction. The long answer (no joke) comes to us with the special of the 30 years of Harley Quinn.
Stjepan Sejic gives us a story within this special titled Submissive. Yes! Just that submission you’re thinking of, but let’s go.
This story takes place days after the final break between Joker and Harley Quinn. The clown princess of crime is destroying the memories of her ex-lover when Catwoman arrives at the window of the place.
From attraction to sexual submission
Harley and Selina have a talk, in which Catwoman comes to the conclusion that the reason Harleen Quinzel fell madly in love with the Joker is because the villain made her submissive to all his desires.
Although Joker did not baptize the former psychiatrist as Harley Quinn, the clown defined her path to crime, her clothing, and she loved to call him Señor J (Señor G in Spanish) or Puddin.
Seeking to prove that she is not submissive, Harley decides to go on a criminal hunt, stranded in the Iceberg Lounge to confront the Penguin, something that goes slightly wrong, until Poison Ivy arrives at the scene to stop Harley from doing anything crazy.
Already tied by the vines, Poison Ivy tells Harley that she will put her on a leash to prevent such behaviors, something to which the clown reacts with great pleasure, until she realizes that Catwoman’s words were true.
Unfortunately, that unhealthy relationship between Harley and Joker was not the first or the only one, and that sexual submission between her and the villain was the basis for their relationship for years. Will the same thing happen with Poison Ivy?
