Talking about Guillermo del Toro is synonymous with creativity and talent, since he has designed and animated various films such as the labyrinth of the Faun, hellboy Y The shape of the water that have catapulted him as one of the most internationally recognized filmmakers, always raising the name of Mexico.
The 58-year-old screenwriter has just added another success to his career as a film director, as he recently released his own version of the classic on Netflix pinocchioa film that, in addition to having the peculiar style and magic that characterizes it, has great meaning for him, since the filmmaker assures it is a link that unites him with his mother Guadalupe Gómez, who died before the recent premiere of the film.
As part of the promotion of the film, Guillermo del Toro attended the program The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallonwhere he not only talked about his work and his most recent project, but also opened his heart and emotionally remembered his mother, who, he says, accompanied him throughout the process to carry out the tape that talks about the famous wooden boy.
The Mexican filmmaker said that even though his mother was not at the premiere of pinocchio in London, England, he was around for the 15 years it took him to create his own version of pinocchio. In addition, he confessed that the wooden doll has a deeper meaning for him, since his mother gave him wooden Pinocchios, so his link with this film goes beyond one more project.
My mom and I were best friends, she and I were the weirdos. Some years she gave me a wooden Pinocchio, she knew that she wanted to do it from a very young age. Unfortunately, she passed away before the London premiere, but I still feel her there.

After the death of his mother, last October, the Mexican film director did not pause his working life and continued with the promotion of pinocchio. She even dedicated a few words to him during the film’s premiere at the London International Film Festival:
My mother just passed away. This was very special to her and me. This isn’t just the first time you’ll see the movie, it’s the first time she’ll see it with us.
In addition to talking about his mother, the presenter Jimmy Fallon took advantage of the moment to congratulate him on his recent title as a doctor honoris causarecognition that the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) granted to Guillermo del Toro for his contribution and support to cinematography and other arts.
