the mexican filmmaker Guillermo del Toro offered to pay the full cost of the statuettes that are delivered at the Ariel Awardsall after the Mexican Academy of Cinematographic Arts and Sciences (AMACC) announced the cancellation of the award due to lack of financial resources.
This was announced by the winner of two Oscar awards with a series of messages published through his Twitter account in which he made it clear that he does not intend to get involved in politics, since all he wants is to find a solution to the problems that the house of the Ariel Awards.
“To find solutions and maintain the Arieles for those who make a cinema that proposes and gives presence to Mexico: I personally offer to cover the entire cost of the Ariel figurines“, reads one of the publications.
Likewise, he invited the Secretary of Culture of Mexico, Alejandra Frausto, to reply to his proposal in order to find sufficient means, but above all in order to continue promoting Mexican cinema that is in danger.
“Our cinema – that art form, very real and highly valued – and always in danger. I enter I don’t rest anyone. Solutions have to be found. Guilt doesn’t work. Solutions help. Let’s get to it, ”he added in one more post.
In response to the native of Guadalajara, Jalisco, the Mexican agency ruled in favor of the award continuing, so they would be willing to reach an agreement.
“Dear @RealGDT, the dialogue with the @AcademiaCineMx on behalf of the @GobiernoMX is and will always be open. The @cultura_mx is totally willing for the Arieles to continue“, stand out in the publication.
Guillermo del Toro also spoke out in favor of projecting “new and strong voices in Mexican cinema” which are trapped while the Arieles, the academy and the festivals keep them alive and urgent. He finally described as “empty” the proposal of those who assure that: “All Mexican Cinema is by Omar Chaparro y Derbez“.
Let us remember that it was last November 25 when the Mexican Academy of Cinematographic Arts and Sciences announced the cancellation of the call and the 2023 award ceremony due to a financial crisis, noting that it was necessary to postpone until further notice the celebration that seeks to recognize the best of National cinema.
