If we think of monumental kaiju, the first that comes to mind is usually Godzilla, but he is certainly not the only one in the mythology of the genre. One of its main rivals in popularity is undoubtedly Gamera the giant tortoisewhich will return soon from the hand of Netflix after several years away from the screens.
franchise revival
Gamera: Rebirth It is the name of the mysterious project that Netflix is up to and has just confirmed, although for now there is no release date. The last appearance of the monster was in 2006 with ‘Gamera the Brave’ and since then, the Daiei has tried to lift several reboots of the franchise without success.
This time may be the final one, although Netflix has not yet confirmed if it is a movie or even a series. For now, a small teaser and a first poster of ‘Gamera: Rebirth’ with the impressive silhouette of the monster have been released.
Nor should it be ruled out that it was an anime project, now that the platform is betting on animes of great IPs instead of original stories, because from the first glances nothing can be ruled out.
The creative team for ‘Gamera: Rebirth’ has yet to be revealed, but Shusuke Kanekowho directed the trilogy of films from the 90s, has already made it clear that the Netflix project has his full support: “From my point of view, I am a baseball commentator with experience coaching the Gamera team, so I would like to continue supporting this team until they win the championship.”
