Not even a year has passed since ‘Scream’ was released, the sequel —which is neither a reboot nor a sequel— to the now legendary slasher saga created by Wes Craven, but the sixth installment of the franchise is not only a reality, but also has a first trailer to heat things up ahead of its surprisingly close premiere. You can see it under these lines.
New York, New Blood
As good old Jason Voorhees already did in the eighth part of ‘Friday the 13th’, subtitled ‘Jason Takes Manhattan’ —which in our lands was translated as ‘Jason returns… forever’, who knows why— , the good of Ghostface has decided to leave Woodsboro and travel to the other side of the country to terrorize a group of youngsters in New York City.
Once again, the duo made up of Matt Bettineli.-Olpin and Tyler Gillettartistically known as Radio Silence will be in charge of the staging based on a booklet signed by James Vanderbilt and Guy Busickpromising a continuation bet that, hopefully, will satisfy the fans of the fifth ‘Scream’.
When it comes to casting, veterans Courteney Cox, Jenna Ortega, Melissa Barrera, Jasmin Savoy Brown, and Malcolm Gooding new faces such as those of Tony Revolori and Samara Weavingwho already collaborated with Radio Silence in their estimable horror comedy ‘Wedding Night’ released in 2019.
Will this ‘Scream VI’ come to sweep the box office just like its predecessor did? Only time will tell but reaching the 140 million dollars harvested worldwide is a very, very hard task. What is clear is that the New York subway is already panicking enough—especially because of how poorly it works—to have masked murderers stabbing commuters on top of it.
